Chad Putnam, 49, from Canton, NC, journeyed to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He passed away peacefully at the new home he and his mother shared in Morganton, NC.

Born in Buncombe County, NC on March 15, 1975, he was the son of Ann Warren Putnam and the late Howard Luther Putnam. In his youth, he attended West Canton Baptist Church. He was a 1993 graduate of Pisgah High School and graduated from Haywood Community College. He worked as a very talented cosmetologist for 19 years. Everyone close to him, knew how much he loved music. He taught himself to play several instruments and was impressive on them all. He loved singing karaoke, and always got requests when the mic was in his hand. Chad was a man of quick wit and sarcasm, and loved to make people laugh. He made friends easily, really never meeting a stranger. Chad had a huge heart, and he gave the best hugs. Seeing people smile, hearing children’s laughter, and loving on animals were some of his favorite things in life.

In addition to his mother, Chad is survived by a sister, Renee Putnam Burris (Rick); nephew Blake Putnam (Ashley); great-nephew Bruce Putnam (and his mother, Catherine); and numerous extended family members and friends.

Chad was preceded in death by his father and paternal grandparents Frank and Lula Burnette; maternal grandparents Siney and Edna Warren; and a great-niece Olivia Putnam; in addition to several aunts, uncles, cousins and very close friends.

A celebration of Chad’s life will be planned for a later date in Haywood County, and all are welcome.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Haywood County Animal Shelter (https://hcasfriends.org/).

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I HAVE ONLY KNOWN CHAD FOR 41/2 MONTHS AS THE PUTNAMS NEW NEIGHBOR. HE WELCOMED ME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND OFFERED HIS ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED. HE GAVE ME MY FIRST HAIRCUT AT GREAT CLIPS WHERE HE WORKED AND I WAS PLEASED WITH HIS SKILLS. A FEW DAYS BEFORE HE PASSED HE SHARED HIS FAITH IN JESUS WITH ME AND GAVE ME A WOODEN CROSS INSCRIBED '' MIRACLES HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE ''. HE IS MISSED BUT THE BIBLE DOES SAY PRECIOUS IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD IS THE DEATH OF HIS SAINTS. BE ENCOURAGED.

My dearest friend, I miss your infectious laugh. I miss your beautiful smile. I miss your wonderful hugs. I miss your voice. I miss YOU and I will until we meet again. We had just reconnected and I feel robbed of the time we were supposed to have. I feel older somehow without your light. You are my Chickypoo. You have been since we met at 6 years old by the water fountain at North Canton Elementary. We reconnected in middle school (since I had moved) and it was amazing. Sneaking off and making out. Driving around in that tiny car of yours in high school. So many memories. I LOVE YOU and I can't wait to catch up when I get there. Your place in the chorus of angels has been filled by your amazing voice. Fly high, my dearest friend.
