Charles Daniel (Danny) Bass was born November 2, 1948. He passed away at the age of 75 on August 2, 2024. Danny resided in Morganton, NC since 2002 after having lived at various times in Matthews, Charlotte, Denver, and Raleigh, NC, as well as Tampa, FL.

Danny was born to Charles Samuel and Polly Lingle Plyer Bass. He attended East Mecklenburg High School. Danny married the love of his life Elaine Woodie on September 17, 1967 before being drafted and serving in the Vietnam Conflict. As part of his service to the United States in Vietnam, Danny was an infantry soldier and worked with his unit to clear mines from the battlefield. Danny worked for North Carolina National Bank (NCNB) which became Bank of America where he finished his career as a Senior Vice President, retiring in 2002. During the time his three girls were at home, Danny could be found at the softball field either coaching, or on the sidelines cheering—always his girls’ biggest fan. Following his retirement and move to Morganton, Danny pursued his passion for travel, often bringing along his extended family to share the adventure. In addition to his love of travel, Danny was known for his automobile enthusiasm. Any given weekend could find him behind the wheel of his Corvette, winning trophies at car shows, or taking his Jeep off roading at Jeep Jamborees.

Danny is survived by his wife Elaine Woodie Bass, three daughters (Sandie Bass-Ringdahl, Debbie Baysinger, and April Holmes), one sister (Deborah Hahn), three sons-in-law (Joel Ringdahl, Jamey Baysinger, and Frederick Holmes), seven grandchildren (James, Charles, and William Baysinger, Adsila and Piers Ringdahl, and Titus and Cody Holmes), one grand daughter-in-law (Natalia Baysinger), and one great granddaughter (Willow Baysinger). He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Polly Bass, and two siblings, David Bass and Darlene Burrows.

Services in Danny’s memory include receiving of friends to be held at Sossoman Funeral Home in Morganton, NC on Monday, August 5th from 1-2PM, followed by a graveside memorial service at the Jonas Ridge Cemetery at 3PM (8256 Buckeye Hollow Road, Newland, NC). Parking available at the Jonas Ridge United Methodist Church or at the Jonas Ridge Baptist Church.

Danny’s enduring love for his wife and family, his zest for adventure, and his enjoyment hosting holiday gatherings will be missed beyond words.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
