Harry “Richard” Causby, 74, loving husband, father, Pop Pop, brother, and friend, was delivered peacefully to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 22, 2025, with his family by his side.

Born in Burke County, NC on July 19, 1950, he was the son of the late Frank Causby and Rachel Ross Causby.

Richard was an avid traveler, and full of adventure and mischief. His humor and kindness were larger than life. Richard was a talented musician, including vocals, guitar, and bagpipes. He attended bagpipe camp at Valle Crucis and celebrated his Scottish heritage at the Highland Games every year.

A dedicated family man, Richard married the love of his life, Julie Love Causby. Their forty-year romance produced two wonderful children, and the treasures of his life, his two grandchildren.

Richard was a fierce friend to all. He was a generous person, and was the type of man to give you the shirt off his back. Richard had a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and loved to joke around. He was a lifelong member of Burkemont Baptist Church, and he was a competitive athlete in several church and industrial softball and bowling leagues. He enjoyed going on cruises and meeting new people.

Richard served Case Farms for fifty-six years as the Live Production Coordinator or more appropriately, the unofficial mayor of Case Farms.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Julie Love Causby; children, Brian Causby (girlfriend, Brittney Gracen) and Heather Tallent (Andrew); grandchildren, Oakley and Atley Tallent; siblings, Elaine Turner, Allen Causby (Martha), Angela Lail, and Hilda Farris; in-laws, Robert and Jean Love; brothers-in-law, Doug Love (Karyn) and Randy Love (Darlene); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many other friends who he considered family.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Eddie Lail and William “Pete” Farris.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Burkemont Baptist Church. A celebration of Richard’s life will follow at noon in the church with Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton officiating. In honor of his bold personality, the family asks that people wear bright colors or Scottish attire.

Memorial contributions may be made to South Mountain Baptist Camp, 3558 Baptist Camp Road, Connelly Springs, NC 28612(opens in new tab).

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Richard was one of a kind. He loved his family ferociously and he held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Go rest high upon that mountain and watch over your family and friends.

—Rick Hazel

Richard was a wonderful friend to my children and myself we thought of him as family. I loved to hear him play bagpipes. He had a great sence of humor and always had a smile and a hug for a friend.

Never met Richard in person, but when I started growing for Case Farms in 2009, he was the one I could count on if there was a problem around scheduling placement of birds or an issue with feed or even after the flock was picked up. He was my go to guy. If I needed more time between flocks for a vacation or maintenance around the farm, he was always willing make it work for me, even if it put him in a bind. So many times I told myself I wish I could physically meet this man and sadly I'm too late. But thing is, I didn't have to meet him face to face to know all those things that were said in his obituary. It was evident through the many phone calls we had, the type of man he was. He will be forever missed by so many. To the family im truly sorry for your loss

It broke my heart to hear of Richards passing. A flood of memories came back to me. Richard was one of the most caring funny loving people I ever had the pleasure to call friend. I'll miss hearing his nickname for me. He called me Vanook. Hilda and I had some good times and Richard was the reason for some of them . He was always there when we needed him.I'm glad to have been a friend of the family. Bless you Hilda, Elaine, Angela, Alan. Love you all.
