Jason Roy Morris, 50, of Valdese, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
Born in Burke County, NC on December 18, 1973, he was the son of Joyce Ann Burkett Maney and the late Richard Nelson Morris.
Jason was a devoted son, father, and brother. He was a veteran of the US Army before working at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. He then worked as an officer with the NC Department of Corrections at Foothills Correctional. He enjoyed old cars, car shows, woodworking, and building Legos. His favorite activity was spending time with his son.
In addition to his mother, Jason is survived by his son, Logan Morris; siblings, Nelson Morris (Brenda), Rita Morris Lane, Harrison Morris, and Grayson Morris; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The graveside service will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dean McCurry, Dr. Darren Browning, and Rev. Randy Clark officiating. Honors will be provided by the NC Department of Corrections Honor Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jason was one of those people who always found fun times. I wasn’t extremely close, but in my time with him, it was always light and fun. I will miss his entertaining and positive personality.

I never had the honor of meeting you. But, I know your son and have forged one of those rare, unshakable friendships with him. If your son is any reflection of the man you were....well that's a thing of beauty! Because your son, Logan Morris is a wonderful human being. He's the kind of man you can lean on in times like this, he's the kind of man that can keep you laughing for years to come, and he's the kind of man that you're proud to call a Best Friend. Stay blessed as you enter those pearly gates and I promise we'll look after your boy, Logan.
