Jimmy Lee Cox, 61, of Morganton, NC passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024 while surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Lenoir, NC on December 26, 1962, he was the son of the late John and Sarah Cox.

Jimmy graduated from Hibriten High School and served in the US Air Force. He worked for Roller Bearing Company of America, from which he retired in June of this year. Jimmy enjoyed anything outdoors: golf, tennis, kayaking, fishing, and hunting. He was a man of many talents and was outstanding at working with his hands. Mr. Cox was an excellent woodworker and made one-of-a-kind master pieces. He was also a poet and a second-degree black belt in taekwondo.

Jimmy loved the Lord. He spent a great deal of time studying biblical history, particularly reformed theology. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Mr. Cox was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He was very soft spoken and never raised his voice when angry or upset.

Jimmy leaves behind his wife, Connie Cox; daughters, Brittany Orange (J.J.) and Courtney Raymond (Josh); step-daughters, Christina Bodenheimer and Rebecca Beach; brother, Mike Cox; sisters, Pam Bass, Mickey Pennell, and Elisa Marley; numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved dog, Opie.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Teah Jackson; and nephew, Sam Cox.

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024 at Faith Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Thompson and Rev. Dennis Gouge officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Connie, I was so sorry to hear about Jimmy. I didn't know him well but I remember playing pickleball with him and tennis a few years before that. I hope you are doing okay. I hope to see you sometime soon. Betsy

So sorry to hear of Jimmys passing. He worked for me on 2nd. This is bittersweet to me. Jimmy and I talked many times when my husband was diagnosed with throat cancer, he passed on Christmas eve of 2020. I sit and cry as I type this. I live in Mitchell County and just found out a couple of days ago. My love, tears and prayers are with you all. This is a temporary parting, but it is still sad. All my love sister in Christ.

Jimmy has been a very close family friend since my mother was in high school. A very quiet yet loving man. My heart has shattered into a thousand pieces of his passing. May your soul be at peace. Going to miss you Jimmy. Love you always.

I am very sorry to hear of Jimmy’s passing. I went to Hibriten with him, and I credit him with creating my interest in Land Cruisers as he had the first one I ever saw and rode in some. Sadly, I lost touch with him after graduation, but reading about his life and accomplishments, his faith and his family, I am heartened by his story. My condolences to his family; he was a great guy. Sincerely, John Doll
