June Higgins Ledford, 96, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Born in Yancey County, NC on November 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ector Higgins and Cleo Parrot Higgins.
June was a loving and devoted mother, sister, and grandmother. She retired from Western Carolina Center, where she loved taking care of the residents. She enjoyed gardening, canning, traveling to the beach or mountains, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family.
June is survived by her children, Barbara Ledford Bumgarner, Steve Ledford, Nanette Ledford Dale (Ray), Judy Ledford Dale (Larry), Nancy Ledford Davis (Bobby), Richard Ledford (Donna), Darius Ledford (Janice), Janet Ledford Deyton (Robert), and Ricky Ledford; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Higgins (Eula) and Zack Higgins (Janice); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Ledford; brothers, Wyman, Marvin, and Arby Higgins; and sister, Hazel Bradley.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Preacher Robert Deyton officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
