Margaret “Mardie” Lingafelt Digh, 92, of Morganton NC passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at her home after a brief time of declining health. Mardie was born November 26, 1931 to Hinkle “Hank” and Beulah Henson Lingafelt. She graduated from Morganton High School and married the love of her life, Earl Thomas Digh Sr. whom she met while attending Calvary Baptist Church. Thus began a beautiful love story that gave them 71 years together. She and Earl had three children, Earl Thomas Digh Jr, (Jane), Nancy Digh Boan (David), and Jonathan Richard Digh (Angel). Mardie was a devoted wife and mother to her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Digh; her son, Earl Thomas Digh Jr “Tom”; son-in-law, C. David Boan; sisters Macie Stratton, Vivian Schuszler, Rassie LaTella, Inez Sewell, and brothers Manuel, Richard, and Oscar Lingafelt.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Boan of Naples FL, and son Jon Digh of Morganton; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mardie worked at Northwestern Bank and Morganton Savings and Loan until joining her husband at his business in Hickory, Western Carolina Supply as bookkeeper. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Valdese NC. She loved her church and her church family and was an active member until her declining health prevented her from attending. She enjoyed various hobbies. She loved to read, especially her Bible which she read from cover to cover several times in various translations. She also loved to cook for her family and friends. Her neighbors could always expect a bag of pickles, pickled beets, or pepper jelly from her on holidays and special occasions. She also loved to crochet over the years and most if not all of her grandchildren were cuddled and warmed by her handmade blankets.

She also loved playing cards with her friends and grandchildren and traveling and cruising with her friends. She and Earl’s dream was to be together in heaven and since his death she has longed for that day. It came true for her on September 15, 2024, when she went from the darkness of this world to the marvelous light of Heaven. What a glorious reunion it must have been!

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jay Robison and Rev. Fred Schuszler officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amorem Hospice (amoremsupport.org/donate) or to Cornerstone Baptist Church (cbcvaldesenc.org/online-giving/).

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
