Mary Pitts Chapman, 72, of Morganton, NC, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC on July 16, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Roy Edmonson Pitts and Mattie Geneva Watson Pitts.

Mary was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the women’s auxiliary, taught Bible school, and sang in the choir. She was also a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mrs. Chapman retired from Leviton.

Mary was a loving and caring mother, MawMaw, and sister. She loved to dance, create flower arrangements, fish, and cook for her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Roy Leonard Chapman (Kelly); son-in-law, Chuck Davis; grandchildren, Tyler Davis (Lauren), Lawson Davis (Emily), Tanner Chapman, Connor Chapman, and Gavin Chapman; great-grandchildren, Emma Kate, Jameson, Ivy, and Amelia; sister, Ida Pitts Price; sister-in-law, Jeannette Fisher (Vernon); and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Verlin Eugene Chapman; daughter, Melissa Davis; brother, Jimmy Ray Pitts; and brother-in-law, Gary Price.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Darvy Hensley and Rev Bobby Shehan officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Via Hospice.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
