Committal
Priscilla “Pris” Jaynes, 84, of Morganton, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2024. Born
on June 20, 1940, in Guilford County to the late Willie Sink and Mary Sink, she was a dedicated
member of both the First United Methodist Church of Morganton and Blowing Rock Methodist
Church. After graduating from Ledford High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree from
Appalachian State Teachers College and taught high school science in North Carolina, South
Carolina, Wyoming, and Alabama.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Sink.
Pris is survived by her husband, L. Oval Jaynes, Jr.; sons, J Brandon Jaynes (Jennifer) and Lee
O. Jaynes, III (Susan); grandchildren, Evan Jaynes, Emma Jaynes Yao (Nathanial) and Andrew M.
Jaynes; and sister-in-law, Diane Sink.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in the Fellowship Hall
of the First United Methodist Church. At 2 p.m., a memorial service will celebrate and honor her life,
with Dr. Michael B. Brown officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Morganton, NC, or Blowing
Rock Methodist Church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
