Rickey Lee Lackey, Sr., 64, of Morganton, NC passed away, Sunday, October 13, 2024. Born on August 31, 1960, he was the son of the late Bobby Lackey and Thelma Clanton. Rickey was the best husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved being at home and spending time with his family. Rickey worked for Bakers Furniture in Hildebran. He also loved to work on cars, watch zombie movies, drinking coffee while listening to music, and watching the sun rise, screaming at storms. Rickey was a very kindhearted, loving, and sensitive person. He was special to everyone who ever met him and spent time with him. He was just a wonderful man.
Rickey is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Ann Lackey, who had been together for 54 years; son, Rickey Lackey, Jr (Allee); stepson, Johnny Larson; grandchildren, Rickey III, Raidon, Kaleya, Hayley, Mark Laws; nephews, Bruce, Christopher and Anthony Marley; 5 sisters; Godson, James Wilson; close friends, Lynn and Beth Henson, Dennis Robertson, Renee Hollins, Kimmy Sue (wifey #2).
In addition to his parents, Rickey was preceded in death by his son, Richard Lackey; 1 sisters, and 1 brother.
There are no services planned at this time for the Lackey family.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Ole Man this really saddens me to find out by reading or seeing obituaries for Morganton. I never will forget the first time I ever walked in ur. Yard about around 1987 I Believe it was. You AND Momma Nancy, as I called her later on in years. U ask me if I was lost. I replied back nope nope I don't really believe that I am. Is that lol bro Richard, around? You said yes but what do you want with my Son. I said I consider him my Lil Brother. I Know that I'm about 10 maybe 12 Yrs. Older than him BUT the reason I wanted to chat with my Lil Bro was to give him some money for watching over my Girls. At School. R.I.P. Pop Rick always cherished Times.
This man was always loving and caring from day I was blessed get know him and I be forever thankful to his son Ricky for being the reason.Praying for you and your family love you all just phone call or text away you need me for anything

hey poppa dukes i know i didnt come by alot once yall moved to morganton i did talk to momma dukes (nancy) alot i checked in on yall alot i did call a few times on the house phone and messaged on messenger i was always keeping in touch once i seen you and her in and out of the hospital i told her ive been praying for yall i know you wasnt biologically my dad but you treated me as your own because i was richards best friend and now your at ease and no longer suffering you were the most kind hearted man and person ive ever known and met there was never a dull moment around with you you always made people laugh at your corny jokes you always showed love to your boys and your wife and accepted all of us as we were i know you was proud to be called grandpa and poppa dukes by me and you were always wearing a smile and giving me hugs even if you were stressed from work or whatever the case was you never let it show i know your boys were proud to call you dad your gonna be missed you are gone but never will be forgotten give richard (bubbie) a hug from me love always your adopotavie daughter jessica (shorty)
