Committal
Rita Carol McCoy, 65, of Morganton, NC, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
Born in Burke County, NC on February 24, 1959, she was the daughter of the late William Riley McCoy and Ellie Faye Whisnant McCoy.
Rita loved the Lord and was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She retired after 38 years as a manager with the State Employees Credit Union. Rita enjoyed going to the beach and fishing, but she especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her sons, Kyle Berryhill (Autumn) and Kaleb Berryhill (Callie); grandchildren, Kayden, Jack, Mollie, Finn, and Liam Berryhill; brother, Randy McCoy (Dena); nephews, Jason and Jamie McCoy; and a number of extended family.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2024 at El Bethel Baptist Church. The memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. in the church with Revs. Tim Hodge and John Powell officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Rita and I were classmates and played basketball for the Bulldogs at Oak Hill. I don’t have the proper words to express my shock and sadness. Rest well with Jesus, friend.

Rita was a lifelong friend and I will hold to all the wonderful memories of knowing and loving her all these years. She was a beautiful person inside and out. May God give her family strength and comfort at this difficult time of loss.
Rita McCoy you will be missed. You have been such a good friend, classmate, and servant. Always a smile and lots of laughter even when we were young. I always wanted to be tall like you, you were not only tall in stature, but tall in personality, love and grace. This is so hard to believe, but an angel you was here on earth and now you have taken your rightful place in Heaven with the Lord. Rest well our dear friend. Bulldog strong. We will always remember.
Kaleb, Callie, and Mollie, I am praying that God guides you through this difficult time and gives you a since of peace. I love you all.....
