Robert “Herb” Gibbs, 91, of Morganton, NC, found peace with the love of his life in the early hours of Monday, May 27, 2024.
Born in Burke County, NC on July 6, 1932, he was the son of the late Wade Hampton Gibbs and Lillie McCall Gibbs.
Herb was a jack of all trades, from soldier to furniture sales. He was an avid tennis player, and his buddies called him “Coach.”
Herb was preceded in death by his bride of 66 years, Norma; daughter, Tammy; son, Robert; son-in-law, Sherrill; grandson, Dillon; and all his brothers and sisters.
His legacy lives on through his granddaughter, Jennifer and husband, Dustin; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Will, and Leyton; many nieces and nephews; and plenty of friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The graveside service will follow at 3:15 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dana McKim officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
