Susan McNeely Paterno passed from her earthly life to her heavenly life on August 15, 2024. She was born in Morganton, NC on September 25, 1948 to the late Jacob Patrick and Ellie Mae McNeely. Susan graduated from Morganton High School and worked at Leviton/Southern Devices for forty years in the data processing department. She was a life-long member of North Morganton United Methodist Church where she was a very active member. She was on a number of committees and was a Sunday School teacher for thirty-eight years. Susan went on two mission trips with her sons to Jamaica with the church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Paterno; sisters, Rebecca Staron (Stanley) and Andrea Foxx; nephew, Larry “Skipper” Foxx, Jr.

She is survived by her sons, Robert “Robbie” A. Paterno and Anthony “Tony” Paterno (Tara); three beautiful granddaughters who were her life, Abby Shea, Ella Paige and Makenna Leigh Paterno; a very special friend, Robert “Jackie” Clarke; brother, Charles McNeely (Valerie) of Florida; her adopted family, Elena, Steve and Robert Heglar.

The family will receive friends from 10:30am to 12pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at North Morganton United Methodist Church. The service will begin at 12pm in the church with Rev. David Rorie and Rev. Paul Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Morganton United Methodist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
