Tellis Edward Benfield, 86, of Morganton, NC passed away Monday, September 30, 2024.
Born in Burke County on May 1, 1938, he was the son of the late Tellis M. Benfield and Helen Gibbs Benfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Francis Leonard.
Tellis spent his youth at Lake James, working with his parents at Benfield’s Landing. Tellis graduated from Glen Alpine schools and served in the US Marine Corps. He was proud of his service. Tellis then went on to graduate from Danville Technical College in Danville, VA.
After retiring in 1993, Tellis embarked on his second career. He co-founded Diamond T. Jewelers with his son, Clint. He was an exceptional jewelry artist. His beautiful jewelry creation and custom work are still being worn with pride by many.
Tellis is survived by his wife, Louise H. Benfield; son, Clint Benfield; nephews, Chuck Leonard and Mark Leonard; sister-in-law, Geneva Holiday; brother-in-law, Jack Hice; nieces by marriage, Jody Courtney and Sharyn Walker; nephew by marriage, Allan Hice; and several cousins.
Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
