Thelma Lucille Anderson Steffey, 91, of Morganton, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
Born in Indiana on December 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ervin Anderson and Myrtle Staley Anderson. Thelma was a member of First Baptist Church in Belle Chasse, LA for 40 years where she and her husband were the “heart and backbone.” She worked for the federal government for 22 years. Thelma was a lifelong learner, an outgoing, vivacious, and creative person who enjoyed gospel music, entertaining friends, and Saints football. She was an artist who loved shiny, sparkling things, and she had a witty, keen sense of humor. For many years, Thelma moved around as a military wife. She lived her last five years in Morganton and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Brenda Steffey Patton (Chilson), Royce Steffey Kent (Paul), and Tracy Steffey Hart (Walter); son-in-law, George Barton; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Steffey; daughter, Karan Steffey Barton; great-granddaughter, Mave Morganti; sisters, Mary Bowen, Virginia Mays, and Lois Turner; and brothers, John Wesley Anderson and Richard Leroy Anderson.
Services for Thelma will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
