Vonda Lee Stroupe, 77, of Morganton, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 27, 2023, while surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in December 19, 1945 in Glen Alpine, she was the daughter of the late Joseph “Red” Stroupe and Ruth Isaacs Stroupe.
Vonda was an outstanding athlete and band member at Glen Alpine High School and was a proud member of the Glen Alpine Sports Hall of Fame. She furthered her education at Appalachian State University and began her career at Western Carolina Center following her graduation.
Vonda devoted many years to the residents of “the center” and developed lasting friendships. For her efforts on behalf of many handicapped people, she received the NC Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Following her retirement, a garden was created in her name. Miss Stroupe spread joy and happiness wherever she went.
Vonda enjoyed outdoor activities, crafts, pets, and nature. She will be forever loved and remembered.
Miss Stroupe is survived by Roxie Watson and Karen Hutchens.
As Vonda requested, no ceremonies will be held to honor her life. She desired for her life to be celebrated by each person in that person’s own special way.
If you want to make a memorial contribution in Vonda’s memory, please choose a charity you support.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

An individual who served others and excelled at that service to others!
Vonda Stroupe was one of those "rare individuals" that comes into your life, makes a lasting impact and you never forget! I will always remember her strong work ethic, her dedication to residents at Western Carolina Center, the respect she showed to all co-workers, her love for animals and her "outrageous" sense of humor!! I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to know Vonda, to work with her and to call her my friend. Roxie and Karen - I am so sorry for your loss.
