I was Pete's 5th grade teacher at Glen Alpine Elementary School. He was a very good student and continued to always speak to me later in life when he saw me. I am very saddened by this loss. Please accept my condolences. Rest in peace, Jackie Ward

Hilda, Rita and I are so sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. I haven’t seen or spoken to Pete since I left Morganton DPS in 1986. I will always remember what a kind and gentle man he was. He was an exceptional law enforcement officer and the citizens of Burke County owe him a real debt of gratitude for his service. Hilda, our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family during this really rough time. Prayers.
